The top 100 most visited attractions

Belton House is in the country’s top 100 most visited attractions and is cared for by the National Trust.

Built in the 1680s for Sir John Brownlow, it has the elegant design features associated with a classic English country home.

Sitting in a 1,300-acre deer park, the estate has an indoor play area, gift shops, a cafe and second-hand bookshops.

Belton House is also home to Lincolnshire’s biggest outdoor adventure playground. The playground closes at 6pm so there’s an overlap when the light shows begin at 4.15pm.

It might be dark at that time, but the venue offers a great day out for people of all ages.

On that theme, to save on costs during your family visit, consider packing your own snacks or a picnic. Christmas.co.uk recommends this for what can be a pricey outing.

Another tip: even with timed entry, festive light trails can get crowded. To avoid the rush, head there early and explore the lovely house and gardens – plus the adventure playground! – before the light show begins.

This strategy can also be a great way to pique your kids’ interest in stately homes. Promise them the dazzling light display afterward, and they might be surprised at how much fun a historical visit can be!

Christmas at Belton has been created in partnership by the National Trust, Sony Music and Culture Creative.
